Fighting Crime

Crime has become a serious problem across Texas, and especially in rural areas.  Drug abuse continues to be a scourge, especially among our youth, and we are all too aware of the tragedies caused by fetanyl and methamphetamine in our communities.  Drug abuse in turn leads to a host of other crimes, from theft to domestic violence.  

I fully support our law enforcement community and will work in Austin to make sure they have everything they need, not just in terms of adequate compensation but also with training and equipment.  Ultimately, however, it is our towns and neighborhoods which must work together to tackle the things that put us at risk.  Listening to our young people if they are in trouble as well as supporting those whose choices force them to start looking for help are small but significant ways we can fight crime at its root.  Still, we must make sure we have a justice system that works for everyone and puts a priority on keeping communities safe.
